The controversial new Snapchat update has significantly revamped the app's design

The first thing you need to know is that your 'Chats' and 'Stories' panels have now been merged into a single 'Friends' tab.

To get to this, you'll need to do a right-swipe on your screen, pulling the panel out from the left.

Then, click on the top right corner, on the icon that looks like a small chat bubble.

Once you're in there, tap on a friend you want to chat with.

You'll then be able to tap on other friends who you also want to speak with, and you can create a group chat using all of these people.

It's worth noting that you can only add Snapchatters to a group if you're both friends with each other.

You can send Snaps directly to a group, and everyone in the group will be able to see that you sent the Snap. They'll also be able to see who opened it.

The maximum group chat size currently allowed on Snapchat is 32. You won't be able to create bigger groups than this using the app, although you can create several different group chats, each with the maximum of 32 users.

Just be safe in the knowledge that you're not alone if the new Snapchat update has left you feeling confused.

The app redesign has proved so controversial that more than a million people have signed a petition begging Snapchat to roll back the update.

The update made a number of sweeping changes to the interface that made it difficult for long-time Snapchat users to navigate the app.

Snapchat isn't backing down on its new update however, and is hoping users simply get used to the new app design over time.

In a statement given to The Sun, a Snapchat spokesperson said: "Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in."
