TEF patrons reap benefits of revised season lineup
Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns advised that the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry, but subscribers of Thomasville Entertainment Foundation’s concert series will reap the benefits of two changes to the remainder of the organization’s 80th anniversary season.
Last minute issues for two long-planned ensembles in March caused TEF’s artistic director and program committee to scramble, resulting in two incredible concerts coming up next month, according to TEF President Frances Mims Parker.
“Due to circumstances beyond our control, both performances previously scheduled for March were cancelled,” said Parker. “Fortunately, our artistic director, Janice Faircloth, was able to draw on her extensive contacts and experience to book artists of great popularity and renown to finish out the 2017-18 concert series.”
“We are delighted to be able to bring the acclaimed Emerson String Quartet back to Thomasville on Friday, March 2,” Faircloth said. “These four artists — Eugene Drucker (violin); Philip Setzer (violin); Lawrence Dutton (viola); Paul Watkins (cello) — are among chamber music’s most highly sought after performers.”
The quartet plans a beautiful program of classical works by Haydn, Beethoven and Barber, Faircloth added.
New York-based IMG Artists said, “Camerata Ireland regrets to announce the cancellation of their U.S. tour in March 2018. Due to the current economic climate, funding for this tour was not received in time for a tour to be feasible. Barry Douglas and Camerata Ireland wish to apologize and to express their support for the U.S. presenters and audiences who have been affected by this and look forward to returning to the USA as soon as possible.”
“We were disappointed that Camerata Ireland was forced to cancel its North American tour, but this provided us an opportunity to offer one of the world’s great string quartets to our patrons and subscribers,” Faircloth added.
Barrage 8, the string octet also scheduled to appear in March, has undergone an artistic reorganization and cancelled its upcoming concert dates as well, but TEF has booked the ever-popular Celtic ensemble, The StepCrew, for Monday, March 26.
Thomasville Entertainment Foundation’s StepCrew performance will combine Irish, tap and Ottawa Valley step dancing, music and song. The virtuosic cast of 11 dancers and musicians, comprised of the leading performers in today’s Celtic music scene, have appeared on the international stages of the leading performing arts centers and Celtic Festivals worldwide, Faircloth said.
The StepCrew performed to a sold-out auditorium for TEF during its 2009-10 season.
The March 2 concert is the final Series A offering, while the March 26 performance will conclude TEF’s B Series. Tickets are available for both events.
Season ticket holders have been mailed information about the changes as well as instructions on how to use existing tickets for the upcoming performances
“These are unprecedented changes within a single TEF season, and we truly regret any confusion this has caused our subscribers and supporters,” Parker said. “We are, however, thrilled with the wonderful line-up we are able to offer next month.”
