How To Make Quick Decisions
How do I make quick decisions?
It might sound silly but I often flip a coin. If I’m happy with the result I have my answer. If I want to go five out of seven I also have my answer.
Decisions are more emotional than logical. We operate on how we feel rather than what benefits us the most.
If I want to go five out of seven with my coin flip what does that tell me? My gut feeling was hoping for heads but it came up tails.
Twenty sit-ups each morning is a logical practice to good health but the feeling of even starting it is not very attractive.
So very few of us ever get to sit-up territory. We have a Blueberry Muffin until the urge to exercise dissipates.
Trust Your Gut
Your gut will either feel good or bad about your pre-decision. Davy Crockett said, “If you think you’re right then go ahead.”
Your gut knows the right answer so follow your instincts. The more decisions you make the easier they become.
Think — “What’s the worst thing that could happen?”
Einstein said, “If I have an hour to solve a problem I’ll spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes on the solution.”
Some Final Thoughts
Decisions, decisions, decisions. Some small and some large. What to wear to work vs. what will bankrupt your company or cost you your job?
Some will keep you up at night while others will have you smiling all day long.
Try to think about the decisions you made one year ago today. I would bet you couldn’t remember any of them unless it was a very traumatic event.
