Vitabiotics enjoys the healthy benefits of keeping it in the family

Tej Lalvani’s designs on the family business started young. Aged eight, he ambitiously demanded that his father had business cards made up for him for the position of “scientist”. Not long after that, the precocious would-be executive was trying to muscle in on designing packaging for the company’s vitamin products.

“I’d even make concoctions at home. My dad actually used the name for one of them in a real product. He used his own formulation, thank god.”

Mr Lalvani finally got his wish two decades ago, joining Vitabiotics, the family firm, as a warehouse operative and forklift truck driver. At the time, the business had sales of less than £2 million.
